Marketplace rules & compliance

How it works, what's allowed, and your legal responsibilities.

Read before posting or buying. Rangium is a privacy-first listings service only. Rangium is never a party to any transaction, does not take title to, possess, ship, or handle any firearm, ammunition, or accessory, and does not process or hold payment or escrow. Rangium does not certify or guarantee the legal capacity, identity, or eligibility of any user. All transactions are solely between users. This page is general information only and is not legal advice — consult a licensed firearms attorney and your local FFL about your situation.

How the marketplace works

1

Rangium is a listings venue only — sellers post, buyers browse and connect. Rangium is never a party to the sale.

2

Buyer and seller agree on the deal directly. Rangium never takes payment, escrow, or possession of any firearm.

3

For any transfer that requires it, the firearm goes through a licensed dealer (FFL) — the dealer runs the Form 4473 + NICS background check.

4

Interstate sales ship FFL-to-FFL (to a dealer in the buyer's state). No sale is complete until the FFL lawfully transfers the firearm.

New to transfers? See the how-transfers-work / find-an-FFL guide.

Allowed

  • •Listing firearms, ammunition, parts, and accessories you legally own
  • •Listing from your tracked inventory (auto-fills details and ties the listing to a real item)
  • •Connecting with buyers/sellers and arranging an in-person or FFL-routed transfer

Prohibited

  • •Collecting or sending payment through Rangium, or via P2P apps / irreversible wire transfers
  • •Selling or transferring to anyone you know or suspect is a prohibited person
  • •Straw purchases — buying for, or selling to, someone other than the actual recipient
  • •Shipping a firearm directly to a private buyer (transfers must route through an FFL where required)
  • •Listing NFA / Title II items (suppressors, SBRs, full-autos, machine-gun parts) without a valid FFL/SOT on file
  • •Unserialized / 'ghost gun' receivers to private parties, or any item illegal under federal, state, or local law

Payment & scam safety

Rangium never handles money. Never pay (or accept payment) through peer-to-peer apps like PayPal, Zelle, Venmo, or CashApp, and never use wire transfers — they can't be reversed and are the #1 source of marketplace scams. Arrange payment at the FFL, in person, at the time of transfer. If a deal feels off, walk away.

Your legal responsibilities

You — not Rangium — are solely responsible for obeying all federal, state, municipal, and tribal firearm laws, including age limits (generally 18 for long guns/ammunition, 21 for handguns at an FFL), prohibited-person rules, background checks, magazine-capacity limits, assault-weapon and feature restrictions, approved-handgun rosters, permit/registration requirements, and waiting periods.

The per-state warnings shown on listings are informational only, may be incomplete or out of date, and are not legal advice. Verify current law for your jurisdiction before any transfer.

Sellers: repeated, profit-oriented firearm sales may require you to obtain a Federal Firearms License (18 U.S.C. 921(a)(21)(C)). There is no fixed number of sales that determines dealer status — it depends on intent and conduct. You're responsible for determining whether your activity requires an FFL.

Rangium reserves the right to remove listings and suspend accounts that violate these rules or applicable law. These rules are informational and not legal advice; they may be updated as laws change.
