How transfers work

Listings happen here. Transfers happen in person, through a licensed dealer.

1

Agree on the deal here

Buyer and seller connect on Rangium and agree on price and item. Rangium is a neutral listing venue — we never take payment, ship anything, or handle the firearm.

2

Pick a licensed dealer (FFL)

For most transfers — and for every interstate sale — the firearm must go through a Federal Firearms Licensee in the buyer's state. Local gun stores and many ranges offer transfer services.

3

Background check at the dealer

The buyer completes ATF Form 4473 and a NICS background check at the FFL. The dealer will not release the firearm if the check is denied, and state waiting periods (if any) start here.

4

Take possession legally

Once the check clears (and any waiting period passes), the dealer releases the firearm. Log it back in Rangium so your inventory stays accurate.

Find a licensed dealer

Use the ATF's official tools to verify a dealer's license before arranging a transfer. Transfer fees are typically about $25–$50.

Never transfer to someone you know (or have reason to believe) is prohibited from owning firearms.
Never buy on behalf of someone else — a straw purchase is a federal crime.
Know your state's rules before listing or buying — they're shown on each listing, but verify current law.

Informational only — not legal advice. Federal, state, and local laws vary and change; verify current requirements before any transfer.
