Go slow. Seriously. Everyone's first match instinct is to go fast and they blow up. Shoot at like 70% and just finish safe and on the paper. Speed comes later.
The one rule: muzzle stays downrange and finger off the trigger except when shooting. Get that right and nobody cares if you're slow.
Bring more ammo than you think, a way to carry your mags, and water. And don't be afraid to ask the squad questions, everyone was new once.
Local matches are the friendliest crowd in the sport. Tell them you're new and a dozen people will adopt you. The only thing that gets you DQ'd is unsafe gun handling, so focus on muzzle direction and trigger finger, not your time.
I was terrified at my first one and now it's the highlight of my month. The community is the best part. You'll be hooked.
