Switched my hunting rifle from a fixed power scope to an LPVO - thoughts after one season

Long-time deer hunter, finally retired my old fixed 4x and put a 1-8 LPVO on my main rifle this past season. The flexibility was honestly great, 1x for close timber stuff and cranking up for the longer field shots without swapping guns. Eye box was a little less forgiving than my old scope at the top end, and it added some weight up front, but I shot more confidently across varied terrain. If you hunt mixed country and have been on the fence, I'd say it's worth a look.

Did you go with an illuminated reticle? For low-light legal shooting hours that's been the deciding feature for me on hunting LPVOs.
Weight up front is the one knock for me on long walk-ins. For a stand hunter it matters way less. Sounds like it fit your style well.
LPVOs have come a long way for hunting. The true 1x is clutch when a deer steps out at 15 yards and you don't have time to dial down.
That eye box tradeoff at max magnification is real on a lot of LPVOs. A good cheek weld and consistent mounting fixes most of it. Quality glass helps too.
Glad it worked out. I made the same switch and the only thing I miss is the simplicity. More features means more to manage in the moment, but the versatility wins for mixed terrain.
