Is 1000 rounds really the break-in number, or is that a myth for modern pistols?

I keep seeing people say to run X hundred rounds before trusting a carry gun, but a buddy insists a quality modern pistol should run clean out of the box. I just want to know how much testing is actually reasonable before I trust something for daily carry. What's your personal standard before a new gun earns a carry slot?

1911s and some 365s genuinely benefit from break-in. Glocks not so much. Depends on the platform.
A good gun shouldn't NEED a break-in, but you still test to confirm YOUR gun and YOUR mags work. Two different things.
My rule: 200 rounds of mixed FMJ with zero malfunctions, plus 50 of my actual carry ammo clean. Then it's in the rotation.
I won't carry anything I haven't put at least a few hundred rounds through. Trust is earned, not assumed.
More important than total rounds is that your carry ammo and mags are proven. Cheap range mags can lie to you.
