Built a simple home-defense plan with my non-shooting spouse — sharing the framework

My partner doesn't want to shoot and that's fine, but I needed them to be part of the plan rather than a variable I have to manage in an emergency. We settled on three things: they're responsible for getting to the kids and calling 911 while I stay between them and the threat, we have a one-word callout so I never mistake them for an intruder, and everyone knows the safe room is the master bedroom. We walked it through twice, calmly, in daylight. A plan a non-gun person can execute under stress beats a perfect plan only I understand.

Smart that your spouse owns the 911 call and the kids. Splitting roles means you're not trying to do four things at once under adrenaline.
Practicing in daylight, calm, is underrated. You're building the habit so the panic version has something to fall back on.
Add a plan for if you're NOT home. Does your spouse know how to lock down and call without you there? Worth a second conversation.
We do this too. My wife won't shoot but she knows exactly where to go and what to say to dispatch. That's a force multiplier, not a liability.
The callout word is the detail most people miss and it's the one most likely to actually save a family member's life. Excellent.
