New hunter — what's an ethical minimum for whitetail with my .243?

First season coming up and I'll be hunting whitetail with a .243 since that's what I'm accurate with and the recoil doesn't make me flinch. I keep reading that bullet selection matters more than raw caliber for clean ethical kills. What bullet weight and construction should I be looking at so I'm getting good expansion and penetration on deer without overthinking it? I want a quick humane harvest above all.

.243 is a perfectly capable deer cartridge with the right bullet. Go with a quality controlled-expansion hunting bullet in the heavier-for-caliber range and you'll get clean penetration.
Practice from field positions, not just the bench. The most ethical thing you can do is put it in the boiler room. .243 with a good bullet behind the shoulder drops deer reliably.
Lots of deer have fallen to the .243. Don't let anyone tell you it's not enough gun. A well-placed shot with a proper bullet beats a magnum you flinch with.
Bullet construction is everything here. Skip the cheap varmint bullets that fragment, get a bonded or tough cup-and-core hunting bullet meant for deer. Placement does the rest.
Pick one good load, sight it in well, and learn your range limits. Ethical hunting is 90% knowing when NOT to take the shot.
