Biometric vs traditional safe for a nightstand pistol with kids in the house

We just had our first kid and I'm reworking how I store my home-defense pistol so it's both fast to access for me and absolutely locked down from little hands as he gets older. I'm torn between a biometric quick-access safe and a simple keypad/Simplex mechanical one. The biometrics are fast but I've read horror stories about them failing to read in a stressful moment. What are people actually trusting for nightstand storage?

Big plus one on planning for when he's mobile. Quick access for you AND truly secure from a curious toddler are both mandatory, and cheap lockboxes often fail one or the other.
I run a biometric but with a keypad backup and I practice the keypad regularly. Don't rely on a single access method, period.
Mechanical Simplex-style lock for me. No batteries, no electronics to fail, and I can run the code in total darkness with muscle memory. Biometrics are convenient but I don't bet on a fingerprint reader at 3am.
Whatever you pick, drill opening it in the dark, half-asleep, under a little stress. The fastest safe on paper is useless if you fumble it when it counts.
Test the biometric with sweaty/cold/dry fingers before you trust it. Mine reads fine normally but choked when my hands were cold, which is exactly the wrong time.
