Home defense is more than the gun — what does your actual plan look like?

I see a ton of 'what gun for home defense' threads but almost nobody talks about the plan around it. For me it's: weapon-mounted light plus a handheld so I can ID before I ever point anything, a hardwired plan to barricade in the bedroom with my kids rather than clear the house, and a phone charging in the room so I can call 911 from cover. The gun is maybe 20% of this. Curious what the rest of you have actually thought through, not just what's in the safe.

Add a plan for the kids. We have a code word and they know to come to our room, not hide in their own closets where I might not expect movement.
Practice the whole sequence in the dark, unloaded, a few times a year. Where's the light switch, where's the phone, where do you move. Reps matter more than gear.
This. You cannot shoot what you cannot identify, and most 'intruders' at 2am turn out to be a family member or a drunk neighbor at the wrong door. Light first, always.
Don't forget your glasses if you wear them. Sounds dumb until you realize you can't see at 3am without them. I keep a backup pair in the nightstand safe.
Barricade and call, do not clear. I'm a retired LEO and clearing a house solo is how trained people get killed. Let them come to your fatal funnel while you're behind cover.
