PCC for home defense and range fun — change my mind on a 9mm carbine

I've been eyeing a 9mm pistol-caliber carbine as a do-it-all gun: cheap to shoot, low recoil, shares ammo and sometimes mags with my pistol, and easy for my spouse to run for home defense. The internet seems split on whether a PCC or a 5.56 short barrel is smarter for inside the house. Convince me one way or the other — what am I not considering?

PCC is fantastic for shared use and training. Recoil is so mild new shooters get confident fast.
Either way add a light and a sling. The platform matters less than running it well.
Mag commonality with your pistol is a real quality-of-life win, don't underrate it.
Counterpoint: 5.56 from a short barrel can actually overpenetrate LESS than 9mm with the right ammo, and it's more effective.
For pure ease-of-use for a non-enthusiast spouse, the PCC is hard to beat. Light, simple, low recoil.
