Hornady Critical Defense vs Critical Duty — which for a compact carry gun?

Trying to settle on a carry load and I keep going back and forth between Critical Defense and Critical Duty. From what I gather Critical Duty is built to the FBI barrier standards and runs a bit stouter, while Critical Defense is tuned more for shorter barrels and bare/light-clothing scenarios. For a compact 9mm that's mostly a self-defense gun and not a duty pistol, which makes more sense?

Critical Duty out of a short barrel can underperform because it's designed to run at higher velocity. Defense is the better match for your use case.
The FlexLock tip on Duty resists clogging through barriers, which matters for cops shooting through windshields. For everyday concealed carry it's overkill. Defense is fine.
Whatever you pick, confirm it feeds in YOUR gun. The fancy load doesn't matter if it hangs up on the ramp.
For a compact carry gun, Critical Defense is the one Hornady tuned for shorter barrels and typical defensive scenarios. Critical Duty is aimed at duty-length guns and barrier penetration.
Honestly both are good, but if I had to pick for a compact concealed gun I'd go Critical Defense or just go HST/Gold Dot and stop overthinking it.
