How do you store a home-defense gun so it's both safe and actually accessible?

New dad here trying to square the circle: I want a gun ready for home defense but I will not have anything kids can access, period. Looking at biometric quick-access safes by the bed but I've read mixed things about fingerprint reliability under stress. How are you all balancing fast access with absolute security, especially with little ones in the house?

Some folks keep it on-body when home and locked up otherwise. Avoids the access-speed problem entirely.
I run a safe with both biometric and a quick mechanical button code. Practice opening it half-asleep.
Avoid the gimmicky cheap fingerprint ones, they fail. Look at the brands the safe community actually trusts.
Get a quality biometric safe (the cheap ones are junk) and ALSO learn the backup code by feel in the dark. Redundancy.
Whatever you buy, bolt it down. An unbolted safe just walks out the door with the gun in it.
