Wife wants her own gun now — how do we pick HERS and not just a smaller mine?

I've carried for years and my wife finally wants her own after a class she took with a friend. My instinct is to hand her a small 9mm, but she found the snappy little ones unpleasant at the range and shot a slightly larger gun way better. I'm trying hard not to be the guy who picks her gun for her. How did you all navigate a partner choosing their first firearm without taking over?

Grip circumference matters more than caliber for a lot of women. Have her dry fire several models and feel where her trigger finger lands.
Best thing I did was step back and let a female instructor work with my wife. Removed all the marriage dynamics from the learning.
You're already on the right track by listening. The 'small = better for women' myth ruins more new shooters than anything. Snappy little guns are HARDER to shoot, not easier.
My wife shoots a full-size better than her compact and carries it just fine. Fit and shootability beat size every time. Let her pick.
Rent a bunch and let HER decide what fits her hand and what she shoots well. Your job is to drive to the range and shut up, respectfully.
