The big thing you're missing is distance and the ability to practice from a holster. A lot of indoor lanes ban drawing from concealment entirely.
Outdoor in winter builds character and frostbite, that's about it. I'm with you for the off season.
You're not wrong, they're just different tools. Indoor is great for fundamentals and consistency. But if you carry for defense, you eventually want to practice drawing, moving, and shooting in varied light, which most indoor ranges won't allow.
Find an outdoor club for the once-a-month longer sessions and keep your indoor habit for the weeknight reps. Best of both.
Nothing wrong with indoor. Consistency of practice beats the 'perfect' range you never actually drive to. Shoot where you'll actually show up.
