Hunter getting into handguns for the first time — feels like a different world

I've hunted with rifles and shotguns my whole life and always considered myself a safe, experienced gun owner. Then I bought a pistol for the range and realized how much of my 'experience' doesn't transfer. The manual of arms is different, holster work is a whole new skill, and shooting offhand at speed humbled me fast. Just a reminder to other long-gun guys that being good in a deer stand doesn't make you good with a carry gun. Anyone else make this jump and feel like a beginner again?

The humility is the sign of a good gun owner honestly. The dangerous ones are the lifelong hunters who assume a handgun is just a tiny rifle.
Made the same jump. Rifle fundamentals helped with the basics but drawing from a holster safely is its own discipline. Take a pistol class, it's worth it.
Welcome to the dark side where your ammo costs the same but you go through it ten times faster.
Trigger discipline carries over, everything else is new. Holster work especially, that's where people get complacent and hurt themselves. Go slow.
As a hunter who also competes now, the pistol skills actually made my offhand rifle shooting better too. It goes both ways once you put in the reps.
