Range brass etiquette — am I in the wrong here?

I reload, so I pick up my own brass after a session. The other day a guy at the next lane got visibly annoyed that I was scooping up brass near my feet, saying the range collects it. I only ever take what I fired and never reach into someone else's pile, but now I'm second-guessing the unwritten rules. What's the etiquette at your range — is your own fired brass yours, or does it belong to the house?

Just be safe about it, never collect while anyone is hot if you have to step forward. Otherwise pick up your own brass with a clear conscience.
The guy was probably eyeing it for himself honestly. As long as you stay in your own lane and don't create a hazard wandering around hot, you're fine.
Your own brass that landed at your feet is yours, full stop. Reaching into someone else's lane or the common bins is where it gets rude.
Depends on the range's posted policy. Some indoor ranges explicitly claim all brass as part of their revenue. Check the rules board before you sweep.
At my club the rule is simple: what you bring and what you fire is yours, anything left on the ground after you leave is the club's. You did nothing wrong.
